If you want to kill a daydream
You hold it down by the jaws
And pull out it’s dentures with your bare hands
And let it swallow Doubt, in whole.
You teach to embrace Reality
With declawed palms
And an unflinching stare.
You open its eyes wide out
And let it stare at
The blinding white light of Impossibility.
You don’t let it drink alcohol
Or let it hum to a familiar tune at night
God forbid it builds into inebriated Hope.
If you want to kill a Daydream
You deprive it of water and sunshine
And let it starve of your foolish dreams.
A daydream is a stubborn con artist
whose skin is stitched together
with today’s vengeance
and tomorrow’s untouched yearning
